The Birth Mother Myth

The Birth Mother Myth

When thinking about baby adoption, adoptive families often ask, “What are birth mothers like? Why do they decide to place their babies for adoption?” Birth mothers are not at all like the negative stereotypes of uncaring moms who want to “give up” their baby.

A birth mother is a caring, unselfish, pregnant woman who wants a better life, filled with love and security, for her baby. She can come from any background and be any age. An experienced caseworker will take the time to focus on the birth mother and her needs. Try to avoid terms like “giving up my baby” or “put my baby up for adoption” when talking about birth mothers. Typically, these pregnant mothers are simply looking for what is best for their babies. Maybe the teen birth mother is too young and pregnant too soon? Or perhaps she is older and unexpectedly pregnant without an emotional or financial support system. There are many good reasons why birth mothers turn to baby adoption plans. Financial need may be one reason. A desire not to be a single parent in a situation where she knows she can’t support herself or her child also often drives a birth mother’s baby adoption plan. She is putting the baby’s needs before her own.
We celebrate all birth mothers. They are caring and courageous. Birth mothers deserve tremendous compassion and respect for their decision to make a baby adoption plan. All adoptive families, agencies and adoption attorneys need to reject the negative portrayal of “giving up a baby” and respect and recognize the unselfish act of making an informed decision for an unborn baby. That’s one reason why all women who find themselves with an unexpected or unplanned pregnancy need counseling, as well as help, aid and support. At A Baby Step Adoption, birth mother counseling, and the attention and guidance of an experienced caseworker who is assigned solely to the birth mother before, during and after their pregnancy, is given to increase the success of the babies for adoption. There are three parts of the “adoption triad,” the birth mother (and birth father), the adoptive families, and the adoption agency. All three parties will benefit from this pre-birth counseling by A Baby Step Adoption. We have helped thousands of birth mothers make the right choice for them and their babies by choosing baby adoption.

  1. Thank you for sharing the information.

I absolutely agree with this. Birth mothers are very caring, unselfish and want a better life for their child. The process of placing a child for adoption is a virtuous thing, but, it is also most difficult for birth mothers. But, there are many agencies that are supporting the birth mothers’ who wanted to give up their baby for adoption.

One of the recognized adoption agency named as Adoption By Shepherd Care is providing the service of adopting a child to adoptive families as well as supporting birth mothers who are considering to place their baby for adoption.
